Episode 172:  Trump threatens to cancel Department of Education. Is this Good? Bad? Or merely a premise for Comedy?  (Wed., Oct. 16, 2024)

K-12 is not a serious place. It’s an endless array of goofy ideas that should never be used.

Basically, that's why Trump wants to eliminate the Department of Education. Personally, I support anything that puts pressure on these dangerous ideologues.

The Babylon Bee sees comedy in the pretentious nonsense, and so should we all.

Let's Fix Education explains to Americans why their schools are so bad. The people in charge prefer mediocrity because they are socialists of one kind or another. If people work together to promote real education, we'll have it.

Trump threatens to eliminate Department of Education. Is this Good? Bad? Or merely a premise for Comedy?

President Trump says he will return education to the states. My first thought is: good news.  The education department is full of dishonest ideologues who promote inferior methods.  Let's get the abuses, and the abusers, out in the open.

Meanwhile, the liberal media, unions, and others in charge of educational decline, are quivering with indignation. I say, let’s rumble. I say, help the public understand how bad things have gotten.

The Babylon Bee, possibly inspired by my witty commentary over the years (see PS below), published a satiric wake-up-call letting the professors know their game is up.

From Babylon Bee:

“10 Most Devastating Effects of Getting Rid of the Department of Education

“When Donald Trump recently promised that, if elected, he would abolish the Department of Education, Democrats pounced on the statement, foretelling an apocalyptic hellscape of the uneducated….

“Through extensive investigation, The Babylon Bee has compiled the following list of far-reaching and terrifying consequences of abolishing the Department of Education:

“1)  Fewer tax dollars taken by the federal government: You may now be forced to take your kids to Disneyland this year.

“2)  Children will only learn about two of the seventy-two genders…

“3)  Child might be left behind: This has not happened once since it was declared [that] America declared NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.

“4)  Kids will learn how to do math the actual way instead of with those weird number lines: Imagine the world returning to actual mathematics…

“5)  No one to write this page intentionally left blank on intentionally left blank pages on standardized tests…

“6)  4,400 unelected government bureaucrats will have to find new jobs as CNN correspondents:…

“7)  Kids will never learn how to do anything: Just like how it was before 1979 when the Department of Education was founded.

“8)    Decentralizing government power is always a bad idea: In such a dangerous scenario, freedom may ensue.

“9)   No one will D.A.R.E. to keep kids off drugs: Illicit drugs will run rampant through American schools which is totally different from the way things are now.

“10)  2+2 will equal 4 again: Back to the horrific, oppressive days of the 1950s we go!

“Don't fall for Donald Trump's evil plan to improve the quality of education for America's school children.”

PS: Let’s close with a true story. I’ve been saying for a long time that our goofy public school system is a perfect target for clever comics.

More than 10 years ago, I wrote a piece called Waiting for Superman, which I suggested might be a perfect set-up for any savage satirist. My piece starts like this:

“Ladies and gentlemen, for years, I thought that our accident-prone school system is a goldmine for fearless stand-ups. Me, I'm not waiting for Superman. Public schools are just too weird.

The Man of Steel will look foolish fighting to the death against silly putty. To speak truth about this demented demimonde, we need a voice, a mind, a way of thinking as deranged as the system itself. You know, we need somebody like LEWIS BLACK…..

You know him. He's the quintessential angry comic. On stage, he appears to be having a seizure …….
